Pathways 2008

Well, we survived another Pathways! As usual, it was cold, wet, and windy! It was quite a challenge setting up tents and a large canopy in the wind & rain! Many thanks go out to Brad, who brought a large steel-pole canopy which we set our gear & picnic tables under. Several of the scouts braved the weather and slept in tents, while others(myself included)slept in our vehicles! I think maybe the tent would have been warmer! During the day Saturday, the boys worked on merit badge requirements for crime safety and fire prevention. They got to try on a fireman's outfit, look for a "lost" body, learn about crime scene investigating, look through an infrared heat detector, and take part in many other cool activities. All in all it was a fun event! See a few pics below.....

This Thing is Heavy!

With lightning speed, Seth puts on the fireman's outfit, trying the beat the record of 7 seconds, set by another scout. The boys thought it looked pretty easy- until they tried it!

Hitch a Ride

Thinking they could escape the cold, rain, wind, and snow of Wokanda, the troops sneaked aboard a fire truck, hoping it would ferry them to a warmer place...

Don't Go Inside!

Caleb waves innocently to the camera....completely unaware of what awaits him inside the Homeland Security vehicle.

Future Firefighter Ryan

Ryan, One of our new Scouts from Pack 209 tackles a raging fire with a fire extinguisher.

The "Hairy Thing" on Jeff's Head

After returning from a Senior Patrol Leader meeting, Jeff explains Saturday's program to the troops. While doing so, he was completely oblivious to the wild creature which sat on his head.

The New "Logan" Pack

Jeff conditions himself for a high adventure trek by carrying the new & improved Logan Pack. It's a very heavy pack with limited room for gear...

Good Thing We Reserved a Campsite

The vast metropolis of Tent City. You can see that the camp was filled to capacity due to the beautiful weather!(This was taken Sat. afternoon, after most Troops had packed up)

Detained for Questioning

These suspicious characters were detained by Homeland Security for questioning. Need I say any more...

You'll Poke Your Eye Out

Lunch time on Saturday.
You would think that sharpened sticks and a hot fire would be a deadly combination for young boys! Well, not for our expertly trained scouts! We had zero casualties and only a few minor bumps and bruises.

Look at that big beautiful pot of chili..mmmm..the gift that keeps on giving...well into the night!

Wokanda Warriors

Fresh recruits from Pack 209 weathered the damp and blustery weekend with our Troop. This group of fresh meat...er...new scouts are a welcome addition to our Troop! Welcome to Troop 85 guys!

(Chance actually crossed over a few months ago- I think he just wanted his picture taken...what a ham)

Caught in the Act

Bunny ears "mysteriously" appear above Colton's head...

Breakfast! MMMMMM...

The strong scent of smoke-flavored scrambled eggs warms the chilly morning air...
